  • The slowness of my schedule ends tomorrow...

Softball season ended on May 20 with closing ceremonies...we took 2nd place in the league and received the Sportsmanship trophy (Way to go Rick's One Stop!)  Tomorrow we go to the orthodontist to get Becca's braces off, then back again on Wednesday to get a retainer.  I am not sure who is more excited me or her!  (I have spent the last two and a half years asking 'Did you brush your teeth?'  The rest of the month of June will be pretty quiet.  We will leave on July 2 to go to Branson for the 4th of July weekend, we will be home on the 6th.  Then there will be a few more days of quiet until July 11 when I will begin to prepare for VBS the 13-17.  Becca is going to my dad's the next week, but it should be another quiet time for me until July 29-Aug 2 when we will all be at Camp Dry Gulch in Oklahoma.  I will have another quiet week which will probably be spent shopping for school supplies and touring the Junior High...(cannot believe my child is in jr. high!) then I go back to school August 10  and the kiddos come back August 19!

Will post 'after braces' pics tomorrow!

  • I know I wanted my hectic schedule to slow down, but this is torture!

My trip to MO turned out okay...as most of you know my family layed my grandfather to rest at 80 years old after a battle with 3 terminal diseases. The visitation well...it was a visitation with lots of people I didn't know. It was nice to see all of my cousins, out of 14 grandchildren I think my baby brother was the only one not in attendance. The funeral service was very nice. The pastor who performed the service was from my grandfather's church, so the service was very personal and reassuring. Although my grandfather did not walk with the Lord for most of his adult life, he did make a decision in the last few years to repent of that and to make a decision to follow Jesus. One of the stories that Pastor told about my grandfather was about his first Sunday at their church. He asked Pastor where he was supposed to sit and Pastor told him wherever he liked. Granddad told him he would sit in the back next to the door that way if he heard something he didn't like he could leave without interupting the service. When Granddad and Grandma were unable to attend church for various health reasons Pastor said he met with them at the farm every Tuesday evening. It was a great comfort to have confirmation that I would see my Granddad again. Living as far away from my family as I do, and not being able to see them often...it is hard to be that light that I am called to be to my family

Okay...back to my schedule...So far, June is all about softball! Softball will be over next week, with closing ceremonies on June 20...Becca will be getting her braces off on June 23 and be fitted for her retainer June 24...oh yeah we go to the dentist tomorrow...bored yet?

July and August are another story completely...we start with a Branson vacation for the 4th of July...then we will be home for a week, then VBS starts. After VBS, I am taking Becca to MO to spend a week with my dad's side of the family, she will be getting back a few days before Dry Gulch! Buck and I are chaperoning, so off we go to OK. One week after Dry Gulch I go back to school (on the 10th)...and the kiddos come back on the 19. I have a list of stuff I want to get done before school starts, just organizational stuff...maybe I will get to it tomorrow...I just have no motivation to do it today.

  • Please pray for my family...

My grandparents are a funny couple...My grandfather had a sharp mind, but physically he wasn't doing real well. At the age of 80, he had poor vision, poor hearing, both hips replaced, and he had a blood disorder. My grandmother is in wonderful physical shape, however, she was diagnosed with althzheimers (sp?) two years ago and has declined very rapidly..the joke is if you could put them together they would be great as one person!

A couple of months ago, grandad had to put grandma in a nursing home. It broke his heart to have to do it, but he just could not physically take care of her any longer. They would have been married 59 years on December 9, 2009. Last week, granddad passed out in the kitchen. He hit his head on a kitchen cabinet and dislocated one of his hips. It took him quite some time to get to a phone to call for help. Needless to say, after being taken to the emergency room and having lots of tests run, it was determined that his heart was not pumping enough blood. He declined surgury because of his blood disorder...he would not have made it through. The doctors told my uncle and aunt that maybe he had a year, 6 months or it could be really soon. I received a phone call from my dad yesterday...granddad passed of a heart attack Tuesday evening. Buck, Becca and I are leaving for MO tomorrow, please pray for our family.

  • Today was a great day...

The day started as normal...no solid plans, so I got to sleep in. I paid bills, then goofed around online while I ate breakfast and drank coffee...We decided to go to Little Rock to see what we could see, so I had to get ready to go...hubby asked what are we gonna do in Little Rock...then decided let's go to Hot Springs. Cool...something different, but crap, I didn't bring a camera! We ended up in downtown walking through the shops...stopped at the Fudge shop, but had ice cream instead of buying fudge. Then we decided to eat dinner, but it had be someplace different, so we went to Fisherman's Wharf. We had never been there before, it was AWESOME! We ate outside on the dock...they had some really huge fans, so we were right on the water and it felt like a great lake breeze was blowing. Buck drooled over all of boats, Becca saw 2 mallard ducks and 5 turtles right off the dock...I really wish I would have brought my camera. We had a relaxing afternoon and it was something different!

On another note...I had two retention conferences last week...one student I did not feel needed to be retained, but I strongly suggested summer school and the suggestion was not met with any resistance. The other, I want to retain the student, after discussion with my principal, he agreed with my assessment...however, the child's mother did not agree at all. I was complimented by my principal in how I conducted myself in each conference (the latter was a full hour at the end of a friday) I was also asked by our literacy coach to be the model classroom teacher for first grade...Our district is moving towards a comprehensive literacy program (what I taught in Dumas) and my classroom will be set up as the standard for the other first grade classrooms. As the 'new teacher' on campus (I have only been there one year) this is truly an honor. God is already granting me favor where I am currently teaching, and showing me why He wants me where I am! God knew my heart was hurting, but showed me what I think is best and what He KNOWS is best are not always the same.
